Sometimes a tweet can lead to some incredible things. Like a year long stint doing email copywriting for an awesome health and fitness startup, for example. Mind you, it didn’t start out that way. When CEO Brian and I first got to talking, the brief was far more simple – a frothy little piece of email copywriting for a holiday email campaign.
Luckily for me people, like Molly, seemed to love the 12 days of Fitmas! I ended up taking over all of Fitocracy’s email copywriting relating to their Team Fitness offering.
As well as working on email campaigns that went out to hundreds of thousands of users, I also took on ad hoc work like editing sales pages, promotions and social media.
This included working closely with lots of personal trainers and fitness coaches, including several world record holders and the guy who trained Captain America’s The Winter Solder…a personal highlight of mine.
Creating email copywriting that struck the right balance of being fun and quirky but also making sales was absolutely key; the Team Fitness arm of the business is responsible for co-ordinating campaigns that bring in tens of thousands of dollars in monthly revenue.
However, with up to three email campaigns going out every week, staying fresh was definitely important too. With open and click rates not just holding up but actually increasing, I think I managed to strike that balance.
